Compu Trainer
What is a Compu Trainer?
Compu Trainer is the most advanced cyclo-simulator training and testing device available today. This is the simulator used exclusively by the U.S. and Canadian National Cycling teams as well as numerous professional triathletes and cycling teams all over the world.
What is Compu Trainer testing?
The tests were designed by exercise physiologists from around the world to give objective and measurable information about an athletes current fitness state. We offer 3 different tests:
- Anaerobic Threshold Test - This test will yield an approximate heart-rate (beats per minute) that corresponds to an athletes lactate or anaerobic threshold. The AT is the most critical piece of information for training no matter what the event.
- Sustained Power - This test yields the amount of time an athlete can continue riding while the resistance is gradually increased. The ability to ride under increasing load is directly proportionate to fitness. This is a very valuable tool for any athlete wishing to improve performance. This test enables us to participate in the USOC Talent Identification program. If an athlete exceeds the USOC time standards the USOC will be notified.
- Maximum Power - This test is a 0.2 mile sprint. It will result in a maximum power output (in watts) and an average power output. By testing maximum power and athlete can predict the ability to climb, time trial, and sprint. This test will also identify if an athlete needs to increase or decrease strength training.
Who needs Compu Trainer testing?
Anyone who rides a bike! Whether you ride a bike for fitness or competition; or you compete in the state criterium championship or the Iron-Man; or even if you ride the weekend ride just for fun Compu Trainer testing is for you. Compu Trainer testing is not reserved for just elite athletes, people who do not have a coach have the most to gain from Compu Trainer testing. It doesn’t matter if you have a mountain, road,
triathalon, track, tandem or beach bike - anybody who wants to improve needs Compu Trainer testing.
I don’t race or compete but I want to improve, can Compu Trainer testing
me?
We have 3 services that can help everyone.
- Bike Fit: This service determines optimum bike positioning. Each element of your position is manipulated until your heart rate doesn’t increase at a given speed. This is excellent if you are adding equipment such as aero bars or find your present position
uncomfortable.
- Spin Scan: This service analyzes your pedaling technique and can show if there is a discrepancy in leg strength. You even receive a video tape of your spin scan session so you can see a graphical representation of the
session.
- Heart Rate Profile: A profile of your heart rate can be printed so you can see the perceived exertion and it’s effect on your
performance.
Important Notes
- Please schedule your session at least 2 weeks or more in advance.
- Please bring your heart rate
monitor.
- Refreshments are provided.
How much does Compu Trainer testing cost?
USOC coaches Dean Golich and Dave Morris recommend everyone test at least 2 times a year, while competitive athletes should test at least 4 times a year.
